Climate Control FAQ's

Learn More About Climate Control

Is an indirect oil-fired heater more effective than an electric heater?

If you are drying out a damp building, in most cases an indirect oil-fired heater will be more effective than an electric heater. This is because the dry heat raises the room temperature and so lowers the relative humidity of the air, therefore allowing the air to absorb more water from surrounding surfaces. The constant air movement also ensures that plaster dries evenly, so that cracks and structural problems to not occur.

How does a dehumidifier work?

A dehumidifier draws in air from the room, the air is then passed over a chilled coil, which condenses the water out of the air, before the dry air is forced back into the room. Needless to say, similar to an air conditioning unit, a dehumidifier works best when windows and doors are closed (or the room is sealed). A commercial dehumidifier works in the same way as a residential one, it is just designed to be larger, more powerful and more robust to cater for larger spaces

How do you dry out a building?

You require three elements to dry out a building effectively;

1. Warmth - Heat raises the room temperature and so lowers the relative humidity of the air. This allows the air to absorb more water from surrounding surfaces.

2. Air Movement – Air movement across a substrate draws the water to the surface, where it evaporates.

3. Dehumidification – Dehumidification extracts water from the air, to be transferred from the work area.

Why do construction sites need heating?

In the winter months, construction sites can quickly become waterlogged and the cold damp air prevents internal walls from drying; which in turn causes project delays. Without heating or drying-out equipment on site, you not only risk failing to meet project deadlines, but you also risk the health and well being of your staff. Cold and damp conditions can leave workers more susceptible to cold and flu, a sore throat, norovirus and asthma. Read more.

What is HVO?

Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is a fossil-free, paraffinic fuel made from 100% renewable raw materials. It is a sustainable, high quality fuel, suitable for use in most diesel powered machinery. HVO is cleaner than diesel and is FAME free. HVO is compatible with all RVT mobile indirect oil-fired heaters.

Do RVT offer electric heaters?

Yes, RVT offer 3kW, 15kW and 18kW electric fan heaters; we also offer convector heaters and oil-filled rads for office heating.

However, if you are looking for a large-scale heating solution, it is worth noting that a 150kW mobile indirect oil-fired heater is 50 times more effective than a traditional 3kW red rad!

Do RVT offer cooling equipment?

Yes, RVT offer Air Conditioning units, Air Handler Units, Evaporative Coolers and Floor Fans.

What is a Desiccant Dehumidifier?

A desiccant dehumidifier contains substances such as silica gel (the desiccant) which are particularly good at absorbing water from the air. The air is drawn into the machine and passes by a rotating wheel which contains the desiccant before returning the air back into the room.

Unlike the more common compressor dehumidifier, desiccant dehumidifiers are suitable for cold and unheated areas because it will continue to extract moisture from the air, even in cold conditions.
