The HSE Release Their 10 Year Strategy

Protecting People and Places: 2022 – 2032

In May 2022, the HSE released their new strategy which is designed to protect people and places over the next 10 years. The HSE explain that the new strategy is required so that they are able to adapt and respond to a changing landscape, ensuring it remains relevant in a time of growth and innovation. The external drivers for new HSE strategy include the introduction of new technologies in the workplace, the growth of the gig economy and the government’s commitment to the net zero agenda.

The HSE have highlighted their key goals over the coming years:

To reduce work-related ill health, with a specific focus on mental health and stress.
To increase and maintain trust to ensure people feel safe where they live, where they work and, in their environment.
To enable industry to innovate safely to prevent major incidents, supporting the move towards net zero.
To maintain Great Britain’s record as one of the safest countries to work in.
To ensure HSE is a great place to work, and we attract and retain exceptional people.

But how do they plan on achieving these goals? The HSE explain that they will follow 6 strategic themes, aiming to be:

A relevant HSE
A fair and just HSE
A people-focused HSE
A collaborative HSE
A financially viable HSE
An accessible HSE

Here at RVT we are very excited about them becoming more collaborative, and we have already seen this relationship developing in groups such as the ‘Health in Construction Leadership Group’ (HCLG).

We have also already seen the HSE ramping up their marketing campaigns with a string of new “Dust Kills” campaign videos, and an abundance of Linkedin posts regarding MSDs, mental health and respiratory health.

The HSE have run two dust inspection focuses this year and we anticipate another one in October, so now is the time to ensure your site is 100% compliant.
