31st October 2018RVT Group was very proud to be able to donate £5000 to support Australia's Operation Drought Relief, a valuable campaign currently being undertaken by the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) and taking place throughout New South Wales, Australia.
The RRT challenge
The Rapid Relief Team effort has come in response to the NSW Government's announcement that the entire state is now in drought. The team's campaign has raised close to an incredible $3 million so far. Hay and food coupons have been distributed throughout the region. About 200 drought-affected farmers in the area have benefitted from a special delivery of hay.
'You can't feed them dirt': stock culled as grain price soars
Despite heavy rain lashing parts of the country in recent weeks, the drought is far from over. And according to the latest weather outlook, the hard times are set to continue. Farmers are being forced to put animals down as drought-driven demand pushes the cost of feed to 'scary' highs.
Feeding families and saving animals' lives
In a thank you to RVT, the charity's directors outlined the importance and role of such donations in providing food for the farming families, as well as saving the lives of their animals and enabling them to keep their livelihoods going. "100% of your donation including gift aid will be passed on as a donation to a number of entities that are supporting the Operation Drought AU Project and any other appropriate causes, as directed by the directors. Farmers in the region are extremely grateful for the hay and food vouchers that have been distributed by RRT. It is only donations like yours that make this possible!" Here is what one of the many donation recipients in NSW had to say:
"The Willoughby family would like to thank you and your team for the most overwhelming, professional, caring support. What we experienced yesterday was so uplifting and encouraging...This will keep us ticking along for another 4 weeks or so...as each day there is some new challenge - stock dying, water issues, a sick child, or tension within the camp because of exhaustion and no relief." - The Willoughby family
