RVT’s new ATEX fans will provide maximum protection for workers in hazardous environments.
2nd February 2021When site operatives are working in potentially explosive atmospheres, you cannot afford to take chances. A potentially explosive atmosphere exists when a mixture of air, gases, vapours, mists, or dusts combine in a way that can ignite under certain operating conditions. Equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres must be compliant with the ATEX directive. The directive covers a wide range of products, including those used in plants, mines, tunnels and other confined space and sensitive atmospheres. Equipment with an IECEx certificate is manufactured to independently verified standards with regular audits giving you the confidence that the equipment is both electrically and mechanically safe.
With a growing number of customers working in these environments, we have expanded our ventilation offering to include two new portable fans, which are designed for the safe ventilation of hazardous area zones and potentially explosive atmospheres. These new ATEX fans have been selected to provide maximum protection for workers in at-risk environments and to ensure compliance with the ATEX directives.
What is the risk of using a fan that is not certified?
If a fan fails, the risk of spark potential is huge. If the fan is not certified or not certified correctly, the spark mitigation will not be identified and there is an even greater risk of explosion.
340million industrial accidents
380,000 industrial fatalities
Damage caused by a non-compliant fan
The below images show the catastrophic failure of an impeller on a fan which was in use within an explosive atmosphere.
90kW motor rotating at 1450rpm… the same power as a family car traveling at 70mph on the motorway!
Our new range of fans are certified by IECEx and are therefore fully compliant with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and the UK ATEX Regulation (The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016).
Coming soon - RVT’s new ATEX fans
The ATEX fans will provide powerful and portable ventilation in hazardous areas – specified for safe and reliable extraction and venting of dangerous gases and vapours in explosive atmospheres with airflow capability up to 7750m3/hr.
Both of the new fans that will be available are ATEX/IECEx certified to Electrical & Non-Electrical Standards (Mechanical) for Zone 1 & Zone 2 ventilation applications.
Thorne & Derrick International, leaders in equipment for explosive atmospheres, will be supplying these new units under a contractual partnership and will be providing technical support to ensure that we deliver safety compliant ventilation fans to clients working in potentially explosive atmospheres.
