The RVT Team pulled together to complete the Couch to 5K Challenge
28th June 2021On Friday 25th June, the RVT Team smashed our sponsored Couch to 5K challenge, raising a total of £4525.00 for the British Lung Foundation.
The team began their training for this week-by-week exercise programme at the end of April. The Couch to 5K is designed by the NHS to gradually build your fitness level. The end goal is that you will be able to walk, jog or run 5 kilometres and it is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a great cause.
Due to homeworking arrangements, staff were given the option to either complete the full 5 kilometres in their own time or at the local Dartford Harriers Racetrack. The RVT Team did not disappoint, with 41 staff members completing the challenge either at home and on the track.
Customers, suppliers, family and friends all sponsored our 5K challenge and raised £425 via our Just Giving Page. Additionally, RVT Group’s Board of Directors generously agreed to donate £100 for every person who completed the challenge. With 41 people taking part, this added an additional £4100 to the total.
At RVT Group, it is our mission is to protect the long-term health of all those on site or nearby. Exposure to uncontrolled hazards, such as dust and fume, can lead to devastating occupational lung disease further down the line. However, for those who are already living with these conditions, The BLF provides invaluable support. Across the country, they have built up a strong support network of 22,000 people who are there for those who need them. Not only do they provide comprehensive free information about coping and living with a range of lung conditions, but they also facilitate over 200 support groups across the country. Their helpline answers more than 20,000 calls a year, and demand is continuously increasing due to COVID-19.
Running this vital helpline costs The BLF £14 per call. The money raised from our Couch to 5K event will allow The BLF to answer over 300 calls from people in need of support.
We would like to thank our customers, suppliers, family, friends and the RVT Group board of directors for their generosity.
Our fundraising for the BLF continued through The Action on Respiratory Health Summit on the 20th July 2021. At this collaborative industry webinar event, Health and Safety professionals from the HCLG, BOHS, Construction Dust Partnership and more shared best practice advice, live case studies and health hazard solution demonstrations. For every verified registration, RVT Group donated £2 to the British Lung Foundation.
The event was a huge success and we are delighted to announce that our total fundraising amount for the BLF in 2021 has now reached £5436.
