Construction, Renovation & Maintenance in the Healthcare Sector

In a healthcare environment, infection prevention and control is of utmost importance; however this can be put under threat during renovation and construction work.

It is therefore imperative that contractors work with the IPC team and follow the Health Building Note for Infection Control in the Built Environment (HBN 00-09).

Maintaining a Clean Environment

Silica dust, mould spores and other contaminants can become airborne during demolition, construction and refurbishment works. It is therefore vital that the work area is fully sealed and that an appropriate extraction system is put in place to ensure airborne contaminants cannot migrate to live areas of a healthcare facility. A correctly specified dust control solution will ensure that sensitive equipment and immunocompromised patients are not put at risk.

RVT can offer tailored solutions in line with HBN 00-09, for example; HEPA filtration units, negative pressure extraction systems, pressure gauges, dust monitors, rigid containment structures, mobile containment units, acoustic barriers and much more.

Dust Control for RAAC Projects

In 2023, Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) hit the headlines, as it was feared that many buildings constructed from RAAC were at risk of collapse. Now, work is underway to either reinforce the structures with secondary support beams or completely demolish the structures.

Of course, construction and demolition work generates an abundance of dust that needs to be properly controlled, especially in high-risk environments such as hospitals. RVT Group have extensive experience of working on healthcare projects that have zero-tolerence policies on dust. Click the link below to learn how we supported the RAAC project at Airedale Hospital.

RVT Work with IPC Teams & Capital Project Teams

Tick

HEPA Filtration

Construction and renovation work generates an abundance of dust that needs to be captured, contained and controlled. RVT Group can supply the brand-new DustMaster Pro HEPA filtration unit which is designed to capture dust at source whilst putting the room under negative pressure.

Tick

Zero Dust Migration

During maintenance work, IPC teams cannot risk patients being exposed to contaminants. We therefore provide a negative pressure extraction system to control the direction of airflow and ensure that there is zero dust migration outside of the work zone.

Tick

Protected from Silica & Aspergillus

RVT can provide rigid containment structures or mobile maintenance carts to contain the work area and ensure that patients are protected from the risk of Aspergillus and other airborne contaminants. RVT also offer dust monitors for added peace of mind.

Protecting Patients from Noise

It is also important to ensure that vulnerable patients are not disturbed by excessive noise, which is why RVT offer specialist noise control and monitoring solutions, reducing noise by up to 39.2dBA.
