A bottled drinks manufacturer required a new internal drainage system, however they couldn’t afford any down time, so they needed their facility to remain open during the work. The problem was, diesel machinery needed to be used throughout the project, which posed several safety risks.
ChallengeDiesel Engine Exhaust Emissions (DEEEs) are not only hazardous to those working in the immediate work area, but if fumes escape into the adjacent live production areas there is risk of cross contamination. For food safety standards to be met, sensitive production equipment needs to remain sterile and ingredients can’t be compromised in any way. It was therefore essential to ensure the work area was fully sealed and there was zero risk of fume migration.
SolutionThe contractor used heavy duty plastic sheeting to create a fully sealed enclosure, and they asked RVT to put the whole area under negative pressure using a powerful extraction solution. Using the Ventex® Centrifugal Fan 450S (20,400m³ airflow/ hour), we vented the fumes via the roof and ensured the work area remained under a negative pressure. By controlling airflow in this way, we prevented any airborne contaminants from migrating into the surrounding areas, and enabled the bottled drinks manufacturer to continue production as normal without any safety concerns.
