Case Study Overview

The Erskine Bridge on the banks of the River Clyde is used by all types of motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. Originally two 1.5km SGN pipelines were suspended underneath the Erskine Bridge. Maintaining these had become both costly and time consuming and therefore the decision was taken to remove the pipes from the Bridge and construct a new pipeline which passed under the river.

Challenge

Complex drilling and tunnelling techniques, including Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and micro tunnelling were required but ground conditions, riverbank geometry and existing buildings makes this project complex. The bridge is also located near schools, local businesses and residential properties. Monitoring noise and vibration pollution is essential to protect local residents and sensitive environmental areas.

Solution

Two Monitex Vibration Monitors and six Monitex Noise Monitors were positioned around the most critical parts of the site. These innovative systems are designed for maximum ease-of-use, even in harsh outdoor conditions. They provide accurate and continuous readings of noise and vibration levels. These monitors ensured workers, residents and the local environment, were not impacted by the major works of the project.
