Case Study Overview

The damp-proof membrane in the basement of a live Primark store had failed and it required urgent maintenance, which involved removing a 140mm layer of screed.

Challenge

The client needed to protect the workers in the lower Ground level from the silica dust being generated during the renovation, as well as preventing the dust and noise travelling up the escalator into the 'live' areas of the store where shoppers might be affected.

Solution

RVT supplied a negative pressure ventilation kit, to allow a flow of fresh air down into the basement whilst ensuring zero dust migration out of the work area. The two Ventex 450S Centrifugal Fans were sited in the basement, forcing air out of the work area via outlet ducting, and releasing the air out into the loading bay through a sock filter. Given the size of the work area and the activities being undertaken, the two fans combined would achieve a complete air change every hour.

RVT also supplied several Dustex Dustmaster units to capture the dust at the source of the activity, and to create a negative pressure within the enclosure to ensure that any dust that did become airborne could not escape.

Soundex Acoustic Curtains also lined the work area to ensure that shoppers were not disrupted by noise.
