Top 4 Industrial Cooling Solutions

Female factory worker hot cooling

In this article, we explore the importance of choosing the right Industrial Cooling Solutions when experiencing hot conditions.

During summer, the impact of high temperatures can be detrimental to productivity, equipment lifespan, and worker safety across many industries.

Common challenges faced include machinery overheating and breaking down, poor air circulation leading to fatigue, and unmanaged high temperatures leading to heat exhaustion. With the correct industrial cooling solutions in place, you can combat these challenges, but there's lots to consider before making your selection.

Extreme heat is the most significant threat to ongoing works in the UK construction sector, with over 70% of  managers citing it as a major concern.

Key Factors to Consider when Choosing Your Industrial Cooling Solution

Facility Size and Layout

Considering the size and layout of your project is crucial to the cooling solution you pick. The size and shape you are working within will determine the solution you need. Are there lots of access points? Do you have a large space to cool, or is it just one room within a large space?

The way you would cool down a welfare room on a construction site is vastly different to a boiler room at an energy-from-waste plant.

Worker and Equipment Occupying Levels

Considering the amount of people and who will be working in the space is vital to ensuring the cooling solution is successful. Equipment such as a generator will be adding the amount of heat being produced in a room, as will the amount of people working within the space.

Hiring or Buying the Cooling Solution

There are many benefits to both hiring and buying a solution, but maintenance and storage are both huge things to consider. Often when buying, you are responsible for the equipment maintenance and covering the cost for repairs or breakdowns. When hiring a solution from RVT Group, you have peace of mind, as our equipment is serviced before every hire, and in the unlikely event something happens when out on hire, an engineer can be on your site and fixing the issue within 24 hours.

RVT Group's Top 4 Industrial Cooling Hire Solutions

At RVT Group, our CLIMEX® range offers effective, energy-efficient industrial cooling solutions that are suitable for use on construction sites, industrial projects and other temporary cooling requirements. Our hire solutions are designed to deliver consistent performance, handling spaces of all sizes, including high-temperature environments.

We offer scalability if required, and with the help of our specialists consultants, we can ensure you have the right industrial cooling solution. Depending on how complex your project is, we can also support with ventilation, creating a fully compliant, effective hire solution.

Cooling Floor Fan

Cooling fans are a fantastic solution for circulating cold air around a space. RVT Group offer a fantastic floor fan that produces an airflow of up to 8000m³ per hour and can improve circulation within small production areas, cool electrical engineers during substation upgrades, or cooling crew in temporary dockside shelters or inspection tents.

Air Handling Systems

RVT Group offer three various air handling systems that vary from 4,200m³ to 30,060m³ per hour airflows, accommodating a wide variety of projects, and depending on your chosen unit and application, some units can simply be connected to power and are ready to use, or alternatively, integrate with HVAC components . Common applications include controlling climate levels within a large temporary enclosure such as a warehouse or hangar, a temporary HVAC for transport hubs or stations during renovation, or facilitating cooling for marquees, exam halls, sport halls, server rooms and much more.

Evaporative Coolers

Our evaporative air coolers come in two sizes, cooling areas up to 15m² or 60m². These units excel at space cooling in diverse environments, including areas where windows are inaccessible. Unlike traditional AC, evaporative coolers remain highly effective with doors and windows open, as they rely on a constant flow of fresh air.

By drawing warm, dry air through wet pads, they naturally evaporate water which cools the air. Key hire applications include keeping site cabins or offices comfortable, aiding controlled curing in hot climates, and protecting critical electronics on naval ships from overheating. This solution ensures staff comfort and equipment safety, even in high-traffic, open-air settings.

Air Conditioning Units

Our temporary air conditioning units offer convenience, with quick and easy set ups and free-standing wheels for ease of movement. We offer three different units offering 12,000, 14,000 or 25,000 Btu cooling. We often hire these units for projects based in data centres, or server rooms looking to maintain cool temperatures, comfort for workers within temporary site offices or cabins, or cooling machinery maintenance zones to prevent overheating.

4 Common Mistakes To Avoid When Looking at Industrial Cooling Solutions

1. Choosing the incorrect Solution

Many make the mistake of picking a solution that will 'just do'. It's important to install a cooling solution that suitable for the environment you're putting it into. For example, hiring a few small floor fans for a large warehouse could be insufficient compared to one or two large axial fans.

2. Ignoring Other Issues

Cooling can only work well if other issues are dealt with such as poor ventilation. Sometimes a project might require ventilation as well as cooling to be effective. It's important not to rely on just one single solution for multiple challenges.

3. Placement

Incorrectly placing the cooling equipment could make it ineffective. This could be situating equipment too high, or too low, too close or too far from the space it's working within. An RVT Group specialist can work out the best placement for your cooling solution to ensure it's in an optimal position.

4. Delaying Installation

RVT Group are often called out after a situation has got too bad to ignore, and when equipment has started to fail, or staff productivity levels are impacted. Installing a solution early can prevent overheating of equipment, and ensure productivity of staff remains high.
