RVT are excited to introduce a brand-new water management solution for construction sites
4th January 2022When carrying out construction activities on a plot of land, water can become mixed with sand, silt, clay, concrete, oils, metals and other pollutants. These pollutants are damaging to our ecosystem if discharged into the environment; it is therefore important for us to manage water in the correct way.
For England and Wales, the principal water pollution offences are contained in the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010: regulations 38(1) and 12(1). Under this regulation, it is an offence to knowingly discharge water unless you are complying with an environmental permit or exemption. It is also an offence to cause or knowingly permit a groundwater activity; for example, letting contaminants percolate down through the soil. The Environment Agency are the enforcing body for England and Wales and have set out that contractors must have a plan for the control and disposal of water from site; they must also distinguish between excess water due to rainfall and water arising from the construction process.
In Scotland, the principal water pollution offences are contained in the Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2011 (known as the Controlled Activities Regulations or ‘CAR’): see regulations 44(1) and 4. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is the enforcing authority.
RVT Group have teamed up with the manufacturers of EnviroHub to offer the construction industry a brand-new solution to monitor, treat, and report on water quality.
The EnviroHub range of equipment includes; Lamella Plate Settlement Tanks, Treatment Tanks, PH Correction Tanks and Monitoring units. An example of which are detailed below:
The HL20 ensures that environmental pollution concerns of high suspended solids in water, from activity such as groundwork dewatering and silt laden wash water are safely met. This is a safe solution for removing solids from water and minimising environmental damage to water courses. View solution >
Some situations require the use of additives to effectively settle fine suspended solids. The TT5 Treatment tank adds and mixes additives through a controlled dosage system. The water is then discharged into further tanks for effective settlement. View solution >
The CW01 is a simple but effective way of ensuring that environmental pollution concerns of high pH water, from such as concreting or grouting activities are safely met. This ensures compliance with authorities such as the Environment Agency and Water boards site water standards requirements. View solution >
The MU02 is designed to automate the process of water quality monitoring, by continuously recording and reporting the water quality as it flows through the unit. This most commonly takes place at the final discharge point. The EnviroHub MU02 is 2", but this monitoring solution is available from 2" to 12". Please enquire for more information. View Solution >
