DUSTEX Downdraft Bench

What is the Dustex® Downdraft Bench?

The Dustex® Downdraft Bench is a brand-new workbench that can provide full extraction from a range of activities and is highly efficient in controlling both hazardous dust and fume. It is portable and adjustable, allowing you to use the unit to your specific needs.

How Does the Downdraft Bench work?

The Dustex® Downdraft Bench has been designed for use with RVT’s dust extraction & filtration units. For example, any of the following units can be connected to the Downdraft Bench; Dustex® D4, Dustex® Dustmaster Pro or the Ravex® WandaFilta Plus Kit.

Each extraction unit has a different airflow (between 1000m3/hr – 6000m3/hr) and is designed to handle different substances (silica dust, wood dust, smoke, fumes, metal shavings, sparks etc.), therefore the type of work you are undertaking will determine which unit should be connected to the Downdraft Bench.

Once configured, you are ready to start using the Downdraft Bench for activities such as metalwork, woodwork, stonework, grinding, welding, soldering etc.

When working at the bench, dust or fume is drawn down through the work surface, extracted through the ducting, and then contained within the filter unit.

Example set up shown below:

What are the Key Features and Benefits of the Dustex® Downdraft Bench?

  • Adjustable sides that create a wider stable surface when needed, allowing you to comfortably work with larger pieces of material.
  • A collection bin fitted underneath the work surface of the unit allows for easy disposal of dust and drastically reduces clean up time.
  • 4" wheels mean provides seamless portability, allowing for easy movement around work area.
  • A robust steel frame which can withstand a range of heavy-duty applications.
  • The unit is compatible with multiple fans and filter units, allowing you to control both dust and fume on different uses.
  • The 200mm duct connection allows for the easy set up of the chosen extraction unit.
  • Can be used inside a Soundex® Enclosure to create a noise-controlled cutting zone.

Key Applications:

  • Wood dust from cutting, sanding, routing etc.
  • Stone dust from the cutting of bricks/ blocks etc.
  • Grinding dust
  • Welding fume extraction
  • Mixing of paint and resins

Why is it vital that we control dust and fume on construction sites?

With a lack of suitable controls, dust and fume can cause devastating harm to those on and around site; 13,000 deaths each year are estimated to be linked to past exposure at work, primarily to chemicals or dust (HSE, 2021). Additionally, discharging uncontrolled contaminants into the atmosphere results in environmental harm, damaging fragile and vital ecosystems. By properly managing hazards on site, we can protect the long-term health of both people and the environment.
