Over 1000 Raised for Rewilding Britain

Here at RVT, we are passionate about protecting people and the environment, so this March, the RVT team were proud to raise money for one of our chosen environmental charities, Rewilding Britain.

The Charity

Rewilding Britain is the first and only British-based organisation focusing on rewilding; “the large-scale restoration of ecosystems to the point where nature is allowed to take care of itself”.

Rewilding Britain’s broad body of work includes everything from working to restore the UK and Ireland’s native oysters and seagrasses and regenerating woodland, to protecting wetlands and reintroducing “key ecosystem engineers” to the UK, such as bison. As such, they are committed to reconnecting us with the natural world, sustaining communities and tackling the species extinction crisis and climate emergency.

By encouraging the re-establishment of natural processes and, where appropriate, missing species, Rewilding Britain’s work benefits both people and the environment.

The Event

To raise money for Rewilding Britain, the RVT team went head-to-head in the RVT Goes Wild! photography competition. Staff were asked to submit their best wildlife and/or nature themed photos in the hope of being crowned RVT’s top photographer.

From the 1st March, staff had three weeks to head outdoors and get snapping. They could enter as many photos as they liked and were asked to title their submissions.

The photos were then sent to Rewilding Britain who selected the Top 10 photos, the runners up and an overall winner. With great prizes up for grabs, the RVT team rose to the occasion, with a total of 151 photos being submitted for judging.

How Much Did We Raise?

The team were asked to donate £2 for every photo they submitted in order to hit our £250 fundraising target. However, this was soon smashed, with the total coming in at £609.

This was then generously added to by the board of directors, who agreed to donate £10 for every person who entered. As a result, the final total is an amazing £1,159.

The Top 10

The photos selected for the Top 10 of RVT Goes Wild! are as follows;

  • Mark Mason (Logistics) - Snail and Tennis Ball

  • Sheena Sutton (CST) - I Used to Hate Algae but Now I'm Lichen It

Congratulations to the Top 10 and winners! For their fantastic submissions, Mark, Ross, Sheena and Brendan received £25, £50 and £100 Amazon vouchers respectively.

Not only did this fundraiser allow us to appreciate the amazing world around us, but it was also a great opportunity to head outdoors, improve our mental and physical wellbeing and enjoy everything nature has to offer. Staff thoroughly enjoyed the fundraiser, and it was a great opportunity to raise money for a cause close to RVT’s heart.

Watch this space for our next fundraiser..!
