World Day for Safety and Health at Work

News
1

Thursday 28th April is World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The initiative which is arranged by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) that began in 2003, is an international campaign that promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.

Members of the Health in Construction Leadership Group (HCLG) believe that this is the ideal opportunity to remind our site teams of the respiratory risks faced on site and what control measures we should all be implementing to effectively protect ourselves and those working around us.

BOHS have supplied 3 different presentations which can be used for Tool Box Talks (see download links below). One focuses on wood dust, another on demolition dust and the other on general construction dusts. There is also another presentation that can be used to carry out further training for your employees and sub-contractors.

In addition to these resources, we would like to share ‘Doug’s Story’. In the video link below, Doug explains how he was diagnosed with COPD shortly after retiring from the construction industry and how this is now affecting his life. This is a hard-hitting video and it is worth sharing with your site teams.
