During a £40 billion project, Network Rail electrified theGreat Western main line (GWML) that connects South Wales to the British Capital. As Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) needed to be installed for electrification, the Patchway Tunnel tracks were lowered to maximise space.
The OLE installation and track lowering produced hazardous dust and exhaust fumes in the confined tunnel space.
A Ventex Centrifugal fan 800S was situated just outside of the tunnel and fresh air was force into the tunnel via extensive ducting. This provided site workers with fresh air throughout the tunnel and allowed them to work safely.
