HSE Health Safety Statistics

Every year Health and Safety Executive (HSE) share ‘Health & Safety Statistics for Great Britain’ that gives an overview of data from the last 12 months. These statistics give an insight into work-related ill health, injuries, and dangerous occurrences.

In this article, we share a snapshot of this year’s findings, published in November 2024.

Key Figures Include:

Work-related ill health

  • 1.7 million Workers suffering from work-related ill health (new or long-standing) in 2023/24
  • 29.6 million Working days lost due to work-related ill health in 2023/24
  • 13,000 Deaths each year estimated to be linked to past exposure at work, primarily to chemicals or dust

Exposure to chemicals or dust at work can and should be prevented.

Dust is a health hazard for many industries, including maintenance shutdowns, building new social housing, repair and renovation works, or structural changes to infrastructure. Using an efficient dust control solution for the activity being carried out is imperative to protecting worker health, and the surrounding environment.
