Deaf Awareness Week 2018

10th May 2018

Deaf Awareness Week 2018, RVT Group

RVT Group is proud to support Deaf Awareness Week 2018, taking place from the 14th-20th May, the aim of which is to raise awareness for those affected by hearing loss. It also helps educate on the symptoms and warning signs and provides guidance on what can be done to help.

Approximately 11 million people in the UK are affected by loss of hearing - 1 in every 6 people

3.7 million people affected by hearing loss in the UK are of a working age

It's important to remember that employers have a legal duty to protect hearing under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations (2005). Assessments are required if workers are exposed to noise levels over 80dB, and hearing check-ups must be provided if they are regularly exposed to noise reaching 85dB or more. Companies are liable for fines if the levels exceed 87dB.

The health risk from excess noise on construction sites is high with plant machinery and power tools in constant use. Ensuring correct and effective protective equipment is used is vital to minimise any long-term damage.

RVT is committed to helping raise awareness of this risk by attending industry events where we showcase our range of protective equipment, and through our informative whitepapers and blog articles which we create and share extensively.

Join us and the nation in raising awareness of hearing loss during Deaf Awareness Week, to help reduce the number of those affected in the future.
