It’s a big challenge to keep a complex building site warm and dry - Where do you start?


Some heating systems are ineffective, some are unsafe or unreliable, and others prohibitively expensive; but if adequate solutions aren’t found, work already undertaken can degrade, expenses increase and project deadlines can be missed.

When the wet weather sets in, maintaining a dry, ambient climate is critical to project progress on site. Activities such as floor laying and plastering can be delayed, and works can be compromised by the effects of damp air. By selecting an effecting heating solution from day 1, you can keep your project on track and within budget.

On top of that you need to consider environmental impact, so you may want to weigh up whether an electric heater or an HVO heater is the best solution for your project. Alternatively an oil-fired heater with a remote thermostat might give you the best control over your drying out programme. Whatever solution you opt for, we strongly recommend that you follow the 'Effective Heating Triangle Methodology'. This methodology contains 3 elements:

  1. Apply Warmth - Heat raises the room temperature and so lowers the relative humidity of the air. This allows the air to absorb more water from surrounding surfaces.
  2. Maintain Air Movement – Air movement across a substrate draws the water to the surface, where it evaporates.
  3. Dehumidification – Dehumidification extracts water from the air, so that it cannot be reabsorbed back into the walls and floors.
