Hospital Remains Warm and Dry During Major Construction Work

Healthcare
Papworth Hospital

The new Royal Papworth Hospital is a state-of-the-art medical building on the University of Cambridge’s Biomedical Campus. The new hospital provides 240 single patient rooms, a 46-bed Critical Care area, five theatres, five cath labs and two hybrid theatres.

Challenge

During construction, some site areas were exposed to cold and wet weather and warmer temperatures were required for hospital life to continue as normal.

Solution

A selection of large and small mobile indirect oil-fired heaters were used across the site. In particular, RVT’s largest mobile indirect oil-fired heater (200kW) ensured that there was a constant supply of dry heat being circulated around the building via flexible ducting. This solution meant that work could continue without delay and hospital life could continue as normal.
