Construction Site Carcinogens

Exposure to DEEEs remains high

Exposure to DEEEs (diesel engine exhaust emissions) on construction sites is high. Surrounded by generators, and everyday tasks requiring diesel-powered equipment such as excavators and telehandlers, means this hazard can be life-threatening if not managed correctly.

Figures collated during the Cancer Burden Survey in 2012 estimated the number of deaths from DEEEs at 625. However, further information gathered estimated the number of workers who have been exposed to DEEEs as being more than 10,000.
