SafeStart 2018: Safety First
RVT recently attended another hugely successful SafeStart event, this year held in Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. Beating the 2017 attendance figures, SafeStart 2018 attracted over 1000 delegates, representing more than 350 organisations from across the rail sector.
Keynote speakers included Bill Cooke, Head of Corporate Workforce Safety at Network Rail who reinforced the "critical need for safety to be at the core of everything that takes place on the railway". Also from Network Rail, Mark Gaddes gave a presentation focused on electrical safety prevention methods. And rounding up the morning talks, UK resilience coach Mark Davies spoke about the role psychology, health and wellbeing play in maintaining good safety.
Robert Hopkin, Executive Director at the Rail Alliance, kicked off the afternoon sessions with a presentation on collaborative working, and how it can help improve safety principles. Hollie Woodward, Head of EDI at Volker Rail, discussed the importance of nurturing diversity to uphold safety - how equality and inclusion is important in the day-to-day delivery. And the final presentation of the day was delivered by Pete Sutton and Paula Gray from Midland Metro Alliance, who outlined their future project works and the opportunities they'll bring.
We thoroughly enjoyed all addresses. As is commonplace at these events, each one built upon our current knowledge of the rail sector and will help us continue developing equipment that ensures the good health and safety of rail workers.
Showcasing our range of dust, noise, fume and ventilation equipment, we enjoyed mixing with delegates, answering questions, and providing insights on our current product range.
We look forward to an even bigger SafeStart 2019!
