Case Study Overview

Guildford Cathedral is going through a major refurbishment programme jointly funded by the local community and Heritage Lottery Fund. Essential repairs include; the removal of materials containing asbestos, improvements to the roof and public facilities, installation of a new sound and lighting system, and renovation of the organ.

Challenge

The heating system would need to be switched off for the duration of the renovations, however the Cathedral would also need to remain open to the public. Guildford Cathedral therefore required a cost-effective heating solution that would ensure the temperature remained comfortable for people attending choir practice, services and other events.

Solution

There were two main areas to heat within the Cathedral; RVT therefore installed two oil-fired heaters to provide an approximate five degree rise in each area, which allowed everyday life at the Cathedral to continue.
