Managing Respiratory Hazards
RVT was delighted to attend the recent Respiratory Protection and Safety Seminar hosted by Essential Site Skills, experts in health and safety training – a highly informative and enlightening day, targeted at key management within the construction industry.
In attendance at the event were SME contractors and supply chain specialists, ranging from business directors, H&S Managers, Contracts Managers and QS's. They all had one common goal: to understand the need to improve health measures on construction sites, with a focus on harmful dusts and other contaminants in the workplace which can lead to poor respiratory health.
Guest speakers included a representative from the HSE who covered legislation and guidance available, as well as an illuminating real-life account from Mesothelioma sufferer Mavis Nye, and her husband Ray.
Following a hands-on session looking at the practical control measures available to manage respiratory hazards, we delivered our own presentation on the procedures for evaluating risk, and how to implement suitable and sufficient control and monitoring measures.
With a focus on dust and fumes, we displayed our Dust Trap, Dustmaster, Raptor, Vac, and Hydramist products, inviting delegates to take a closer look and ask questions.
"A very informative and instructive day helping contractors understand the reasons behind the need for a change of behaviours in relation to long term health" commented Vern Harrington, Northern Sales Representative.
